When Will We Become Civilized?

 When Will We Become Civilized?

The True Meaning of Civilization

Civilization is not just about tall buildings, modern technology, and economic progress. The true identity of a civilized society lies in its moral values, human sensitivities, and sense of justice. However, when we look at the current state of our society, we are forced to wonder—are we truly civilized, or is civilization just an illusion?

Signs of Uncivilized Behaviour

Our daily news, incidents on the streets, and widespread violence indicate that while we have advanced technologically, we are regressing morally. Even today—

  • Rape, murder, theft, and violence have become common occurrences.
  • People are ready to shed blood in the name of religion and caste.
  • Instead of helping an accident victim, people find it more important to record a video.
  • Hatred, jealousy, and greed have crushed human compassion.

Moral Decline Despite Progress

Today, we have made great strides in science and technology, but in terms of humanity, we are moving backward. We are thinking of building homes on the moon, but we are losing our humanity on Earth.

  • Family values are weakening – Parents are being sent to old-age homes, and children are lost in the virtual world of mobile phones and social media.
  • Women’s safety remains a major issue – In a country where women are worshipped as goddesses, crimes against them continue to rise.
  • Divisions based on religion and caste are widening – Is this what our definition of civilization should be?

Do We Deserve to Call Ourselves Civilized?

If civilization means only external development and material progress, then perhaps we have become civilized. But if civilization means equality, compassion, love, and justice, then we still have a long way to go.

The First Step Towards Civilization

  1. Strengthen moral education and values – Teach children that humanity is more important than technology.
  2. Spread awareness in society – Rise above discrimination based on caste, religion, and gender, and respect one another.
  3. Prioritize helping others – Whether someone is injured on the road or in need of help, be sensitive and take action.
  4. Follow the law and respect justice – Value your rights while also respecting the rights of others.

Conclusion

Civilization should not just be about appearances; it should be defined by our thoughts, actions, and contributions to society. Only when every individual prioritizes humanity, compassion, and respect will we truly deserve to be called civilized.

So the real question is—when will we become civilized? And the answer is—when we truly embrace humanity.

Civilization will be always in danger when those who have never learned to obey are given the right to command.

The day we choose to follow the basic norms of a civil society and not merely talk about morality and honesty, but also incorporate them in our everyday life.
