Dadasaheb Phalke death anniversay (16th February)
Dadasaheb Phalke, born on 30 April 1870, is honoured as the Father of Indian Cinema. He pioneered Indian filmmaking by directing India’s first full-length feature film, Raja Harishchandra (1913), laying the foundation for the industry. Over his career, he made more than 90 films and numerous short films, shaping Indian cinema’s early years. To recognise his immense contribution, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award was instituted in 1969. His death anniversary falls on 16 February, as he passed away in 1944, leaving behind a lasting cinematic legacy.
